Celebrating our CVC's 4th Anniversary!

Valentine's Day Spay/Neuter Fundraiser  Healdsburg Happy Tail Update And MORE…

This month, we’re celebrating our Community Veterinary Clinic’s 4th Anniversary! ❤

The best part of this celebration is witnessing the love between people and pets like Maverick! Maverick’s owner brought him to a local emergency clinic when he noticed he was lethargic and had lost his appetite. The sweet shepherd was diagnosed with a suspected GI foreign body, but his owner could not afford the surgery at the emergency clinic. He loves Maverick, but when faced with the possibility of economic euthanasia, he began thinking about surrendering his beloved dog to a shelter in order to get him the lifesaving surgery he needed.

Thankfully, the veterinarian at the emergency clinic contacted our CVC to see if we could help. Our team was able to get Maverick in for surgery the next day, at a cost his guardian could afford. During surgery, our veterinarian removed a large, rubber donut-shaped item that was stuck in Maverick’s intestines. Maverick recovered well and his owner was so grateful that we were able to help so he didn’t have to give up his companion. He called us a few days after the surgery to let us know that Maverick was comfortable, eating well and taking his medications like a champ – back to his old self!

The idea for our CVC began with the 2017 Tubbs Fire, when we saw the outpouring of need for vet care among those facing financial hardship. Since its opening on February 11, 2019, the CVC has continued to adapt and evolve to meet our community’s most pressing needs. Our amazing CVC team has worked hard to treat the most urgent cases for low-income local pet guardians. And the demand for services remains at an all-time high. Last year, our CVC team logged 2,069 appointments – a 40% increase over 2021.

Thanks to your support, we are able to save lives, relieve worry and preserve the precious human/animal bond that is so vital to individual and collective wellbeing. Your compassionate commitment to this work means the world – to the animals and to our community!

❤ THANK YOU ❤

We are reaching new heights with your help! Our CVC is one of our crucial safety net services aimed at keeping pets with the families who love them. Read more about HSSC's Community Initiatives!

HEALDSBURG HAPPY TAIL UPDATE!

Anchovy's Happy Tail!

Anchovy was a stray kitten found trapped in the engine compartment of a car. It was cold outside so he was most likely trying to warm himself up with the engine’s residual heat. Luckily, his finder, Katriona, got him out safely! She called animal control who then brought little Anchovy to our care.

During his intake exam, our staff discovered that he was positive for ringworm, a highly contagious fungus affecting the skin. This poor little guy went through the long ringworm treatment process, but he was the best patient you could ask for! He melted the hearts of our Healdsburg staff and volunteers with his impossibly cute little face and adorable personality. Once he was finally cleared of ringworm, he was neutered and then made available for adoption. Katriona turned their kismet meeting into a lifelong friendship. She adopted him immediately and we are very happy to see this sweet kitty safe, warm, and happy (ever after).

COMMUNITY PARTNER SPOTLIGHT

Thank You Veale Outdoor Advertising! ❤

Veale outdoor advertising is a family business with Tom and Leanna Jackson at the helm. In business for over 40 years, they have always focused on supporting nonprofits and their community. They especially love to support organizations like the Humane Society of Sonoma County and have done so for the last 10 years. The entire team at Veale are definitely dog people and know the value a beloved pet brings into all our lives.

"We feel it is important to be active participants in promoting local community organizations and charities. It helps foster positive energy and growth within the communities that we serve – HSSC achieves that goal. That’s why - when space is available - we donate time on our boards and often promote local fundraisers for major disasters such as the wildfires, Covid, and promote community philanthropic efforts that uplift us all here in Sonoma County.

We want to thank everyone at HSSC and their incredible team for consistently supporting this wonderful cause and helping these otherwise vulnerable animals get what they need to not only survive but thrive!"

Our sincerest thanks go out to Veale for their continuous support and dedication to the animals and our community. YOU are the BEST!
