Welcome Lindsay McCall!

Have you heard the mews?

This month, we are pleased to announce that HSSC has a new executive director! Lindsay McCall succeeds Wendy Welling who is leaving the role to focus on her family’s business.

We are deeply grateful to Wendy for her leadership over the years. Her commitment to the animals, strategic thinking and leadership has ensured we could sustain our lifesaving mission through wildfires, floods and the Coronavirus pandemic. And, through this time of continued challenges, we are beyond thankful and excited that the torch has been passed to Lindsay McCall.

Lindsay has been an integral part of HSSC and our culture of responsive resilience for many years. She joined us in 2016 as our Director of Animal Care and was appointed Director of Operations earlier this year! Her career in animal welfare began in Bay Area emergency veterinary practice and, before moving to Sonoma County to join HSSC, Lindsay worked for many years with a large private shelter in southern California. Her background in shelter management includes oversight and practice in neonatal kitten care, foster program management, trap/neuter/release for community cats, and pursuit of animal abuse and neglect cases alongside veterinarians and animal control.

Since her early days with HSSC, Lindsay has focused on furthering our progressive initiatives aimed at moving rescued animals from the shelter into their new home as quickly as possible – including streamlining adoption processes and providing support for owned and stray animals through multiple channels. All of these efforts have enabled us to take in more animals who may be facing euthanasia at overcrowded shelters across the Bay Area, Central California and beyond.

Kati Aho, HSSC's Board President, remarked on this exciting transition: “On behalf of the HSSC Board of Directors, we want to thank Wendy for her years of service as our Executive Director. She’s been an outstanding leader bringing insight, consistency, and an incredible ability to adapt. She has brought so much to the organization and will be missed. The Board of Directors is very pleased to welcome Lindsay to her new role. Lindsay has a strong background in animal welfare, is forward thinking and will take on the new role with enthusiasm and knowledge.”

Please join us in wishing Wendy the very best in her new adventure and welcoming Lindsay to her new role! With Lindsay at the helm - and you by our side - the future looks very bright for the animals!

Thank you for your support and commitment to our mission!

News From Our Shelter Hospital

As inconceivable as it may be, these two sweethearts were recently found abandoned near a Sebastopol business. During their intake exams, in addition to fleas and other minor health issues, our Shelter Medicine team discovered that Princess Buttercup (the brindle bulldog) had pyrometra - an infection of the uterus. Our expert team was able to fix this painful and life-threatening condition during her spay surgery and both lovely pups were ready to find their new forever home.

We are very happy to report that these two cuties were adopted together by their wonderful new family, with many exciting adventures to look forward to. We cannot wait for the updates! ❤️

In these changing times, your support helps HSSC's Shelter Medicine and CVC programs provide lifesaving procedures and surgeries for animals in need.

Any gift you can spare right now will do a world of good for our shelter animals and allow our medical and animal care teams to continue saving these precious lives.

THANK YOU FOR YOUR SUPPORT!
