 | | | It's been a whopping 4 months since we closed our doors to the public due to the shelter in place order and began adapting to our new normal! Things are a lot different these days but the action-packed lifesaving work we do has not stopped! We took some time to reflect on the last four months and how many animals we've been able to positively impact. Since the start of shelter-in-place on 3/18/2020 we have……(drumroll please!!!)……….. Adopted out 336 animals! Taken in 147 stray animals! Sent 257 animals to foster! Reclaimed 40 animals (back to their owners)! Transferred in 294 animals in need from partner shelters! We celebrate the teamwork, support, and comaraderie among HSSC staff, volunteers, foster families and our neighboring shelter partners - we could not continue this incredible work without each other. We also applaud YOU, our amazing community. It takes a village to feed, house and care for the most vulnerable animals and we couldn't do it without your support! Click here to see how!! 🐾❤️ | | News from our Shelter Hospital and Community Vet Clinic | | | | | | | | Little Lucy was transferred to us with a chronic eye condition that was not responding to treatment at another shelter. Her eye was causing her a lot of pain, so our medical team decided to enucleate (remove) it.
It’s a hard decision to remove an eye that is still functional; it would have been an easier decision if she was blind in that eye, but our veterinarians decided that it wasn’t fair for her to be living in constant pain.
The surgery was successful and Lucy is already feeling much better. She will be available for adoption soon so if you are looking to add a beautiful calico kitty to your family, Lucy is a keeper!
Oh, and if you're wondering about the pink baby socks...Our surgery team places baby socks on the feet of our shelter animals to keep them warm while under anesthesia. 🧦😺❤️ | |  | | | | Meet Midas! Midas is a teacup chihuahua who first came to our Community Veterinary Clinic last year because he was having seizures. Midas' family could not afford to see a neurologist or pay for medication to control his seizures. Thanks to donor support, the CVC is able to offer medications and treatments at cost to members of our community who qualify for services. We are happy to report that Midas has responded well to his anti-seizure medication. He recently came in for his annual checkup and vaccines and is doing great! With your help we are able to care for at-risk animals and keep pets like Midas right where they belong - with the families who love them! | | | | HSSC Shelter Medicine and our CVC are still performing life saving procedures and surgeries during the shelter in place. We are so grateful to have such dedicated medical professionals caring for the animals who need it most. These classes will provide clients the same coaching and instruction as in person classes, but from the convenience and safety of your own home. Basic Training and Manners will include how to safely use food in teaching your dog behaviors like sit, down and wait. We will also work on attention and the beginnings of "come-when-called".
