Hypatia - Charm For Days!

Hypatia is a wonderfully affectionate 10 year old beauty who can't wait to get into a home where she can relax and truly be herself. If you give her a minute, she'll come up to greet you and ask for scritches - her favorite place to be pet is her cute little face. 

She's also often down for a little play session and enjoys playfully batting at toys. Hypatia would love to be the only cat in your home, as she wants to reserve all the attention for herself. Just try to say no to this fabulous and absolutely charming cat!

Tux is one of those super affectionate cats who just wants someone to love him. Like many of the animals we take in, he came to us with some medical issues - and from day one in our shelter hospital, we recognized right away how special he is. He has so much love to give and we knew he was going to be the purr-fect companion once he was cleared for take off!

Ready for the good news? As we suspected, someone fell in love with Tux immediately and he was adopted shortly after hitting the adoption floor!

Our medical efforts rely on donations and community support to provide care for the shelter animals. We also rely on adopters who are willing to welcome these special animals into their homes - especially those who may need ongoing medical care. We are so grateful for the unconditional love in our community. It allows us to continue our life-saving work by taking in more animals!

Stanley has been undergoing treatment for heartworm disease through our Community Veterinary Clinic. Stanley's dad was unable to afford consistent heartworm preventative medication until he came to the CVC.

Here Stanley is recovering from sedation following his second heartworm treatment - only one more to go! He has been handling the treatments very well and we are hopeful that he will have a full recovery.

We've been seeing an increase in the number of heartworm positive dogs in this area over the past few years. Heartworm disease is spread from one dog to another by mosquitoes. While treatment can be successful, prevention is MUCH safer and easier! Thanks to our generous donors, we are able to subsidize care for pets like Stanley, and help keep heartworm disease out of Sonoma County!

Join us on Zoom for our Basic Training and Manners Class!

Basic Training and Manners is now online! This class will provide clients the same coaching and instruction as in person classes, but from the convenience and safety of your own home. This class will teach you and your canine friend the basics of building a connection that lasts a lifetime. Skills included will be how to safely use food in teaching your dog behaviors like sit, down and wait. We will also work on attention, and the beginnings of a come when called.

The next session starts: Saturday, June 13th - July 25th, 11:30 am-12:30 pm

Furry Friends Summer Day Camp

We at HSSC would like to let you know that we are reducing the number of registrations for campers to minimize any risks surrounding COVID-19. Our aim in doing this is to provide peace of mind to parents while continuing to provide a fun and enriching experience to campers. We have also eliminated all off-site field trips to minimize exposure and keep our campers safe.

June is Pet Preparedness Month!!

Proper planning can save valuable time, and even lives, in the event of an emergency. Think of and plan your pet’s survival in the same way you’d think of any other family member. Not only do you want to prepare a “go bag” with two weeks-worth of food, water, any necessary medications and pet-related supplies (including your pet’s favorite toy – having it will reduce their stress), you also want to remember details such as making sure your pet is microchipped (and that microchip registry info is up-to-date) and wearing a current ID tag. It’s also a good idea to include copies of your pet’s vaccination records and any related paperwork in the kit too.

It’s also critical to help your pets become comfortable with their kennel before an emergency strikes. Keeping crates and kennels out in your living environment and even feeding meals or treats in the carrier can make them seem less scary to your pets, and in turn make it easier to load up your pets in the event of an emergency.
